- Chiliz exchange launching in February will focus solely on sport fan tokens
Chiliz has announced that they will launch a sport fan tokens exchange in February. Essentially, sport fan tokens are cryptocurrency tokens for particular players and teams. These tokens can become collectible items among fans, especially since if a team or player becomes famous then the token would theoretically become more valuable. Also, teams and players can airdrop tokens to increase fan interaction, such as to incentivize social media activity, or even to get more people to come to games.
Notably, Chiliz claims it will be the first crypto exchange not focused on traditional crypto assets.
Chiliz will be integrated with the Socios wallet which will support sport fan tokens, so users will be able to hold these tokens in their own wallet. All soccer teams that are partners with Socios will be holding Fan Token Offerings, which is basically the sports version of an initial coin offering (ICO). Some of the soccer teams which be launching tokens include Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, AS Roma, Galatasaray, and West Ham United.
Overall, it appears Chiliz and Socios has the potential to spread cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to billions of sports fans worldwide.
