Brad Garlinghouse Hints Ripple Labs May Conduct IPO This Year

Ripple IPO
  • Ripple Labs may conduct an IPO this year, and if it does, its valuation would be around USD 10 billion

The CEO of Ripple Labs, Brad Garlinghouse, hinted that they may hold an initial public offering (IPO) this year. Specifically Garlinghouse said:

“I think over the next 12 months you’re definitely going to see IPOs in the crypto, blockchain space. I’m not sure we want to be first but we certainly don’t want to be last either, so I expect we’ll be on the leading side of that, not the lagging side.”

An IPO is when a company goes public on the stock exchange, allowing any stock investor to buy shares of the company. Therefore, if Ripple Labs did an IPO, it would likely bring in a tidal wave of investment. This is especially true since Ripple Labs has a valuation of USD 10 billion, based on a recent USD 200 million funding round.

Additionally, the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency itself has a market cap of USD 10 billion, and that is just for the publicly circulating supply. Ripple Labs itself holds over USD 10 billion of XRP tokens that are not yet in circulation.

That being said, Ripple Labs has done nothing official yet in regards to an IPO, although Garlinghouse says the firm has been in talks with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
