- A 19-year old receives the prestigious Bal Shakti Puraskar from the Prime Minister of India for her ‘Crypto Price Tracker App’
A young crypto developer and entrepreneur Harshita Arora was awarded the prestigious Bal Shakti Puraskar by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2020 was presented to 49 children under various categories at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The award was instituted to give recognition to young minds excelling in the fields of innovation, sports, bravery, social services, art, culture; and the award includes a certificate, a medal, and a cash prize worth USD 1,400.
The conferee, Harshita, is a programmer based in San Francisco. The 19-year old was awarded for her ‘Crypto Price Tracker’, a portfolio management application to safeguard investors from scams. The application ranked second in the finance category of the App Store on launch with thousands of paid downloads. Apart from the tracker application, Harshita co-created a food recognition app, the Food AI app, that can identify the composition of food from pictures – all offline. Harshita’s other projects include CellCount, an application that helps biologists to count the number of cells in a picture.

At a moment where the crypto stance is very tense in the country, this news certainly brings a ray of optimism for the crypto community and only motivates the young developers to explore the crypto realm. Members of the Twiterrati did not hang back in expressing their views about the situation, with one of them mentioning how “India is in a love-hate relationship with cryptocurrency”. Last week, the landmark legal proceedings between the RBI and the IAMAI continued. The legal counsel of IAMAI, Ashim Sood, is against the blanket ban imposed by the RBI on banks’ dealings to crypto businesses.
