Singapore startup BCB Blockchain plans on turning Myanmar’s Yatai city into a smart city, as reported by e27. The whole idea is to provide smart city solutions to achieve an environment that meets the goals of a livable, workable and sustainable city of the future.
Contradicting the general notion that already developed cities are easier to turn into a smart city, BCB Blockchain CEO Douglas Glan believes it is easier for non-developed cities to be turned into blockchain-enabled smart cities. The reason for this being that it is easier to implement new technologies in these cities than having to convince relevant partners in developed cities to change their legacy infrastructure.
Yatai city of Myanmar will become BCB Blockchain’s first project launched by Myanmar Yatai International Group. BCB hopes to implement blockchain’s distributed ledger technology for recording assets, securing transaction data, insurance, healthcare data and much more.
BCB aims at making everything that happens in the city more efficient, for example, using smart contracts to execute transactions in the fraction of a second. Blockchain will be implemented as the base layer of security and used in all integral parts of city, be it the water refinery or any industry.
Yatai City will be the testing ground to jump from 3G network to 5G and hopefully even 6G for the industries who have blockchain-based security layer.
Give a sneak peek into the future projects, Gan said:
“We have signed with one other city, but we can’t disclose the name yet as we prefer to execute first then share later publicly. But to give you an idea, this smart city is located in Cambodia. Our mission is to support the economies of 1000 smart cities of the future.”
