Bitcoin Not Accepted: Burger King Crypto Plan Stalls

Burger king

A Burger King outlet in Germany had started to accept Bitcoin (BTC) on its website and mobile app starting from 3 September, making it one of the first international fast-food chains to accept Bitcoin for payment. But, now unexpected problems are beginning to hit its very public move to accept the cryptocurrency.

This is a continuation of a longstanding Bitcoin-friendly trend by Burger King, who first allowed BTC payments in an outlet in Arnhem, Netherlands back in 2016. Since then they have played with the idea again in Russia, and on Aug. 25, 2017, they also issued 1 billion WhopperCoins (WHO) using the Waves blockchain.

Now, after two years of silence, the Burger King-Bitcoin has reappeared with the German division’s announcement that it is now accepting Bitcoin payments on its delivery site and mobile app.

The ad read:

“Every day, more than 11 million guests visit Burger King restaurants around the world. It’s the second-largest fast-food burger place in the world. BTC accepted here, BTC accepted there, BTC accepted everywhere!”

It is to be noted that a meal at the Burger King in Germany can be bought through BTC, but not in a brick and mortar store but rather through an online store. So, problems persist in the acceptance of Bitcoin directly in restaurants themselves. Many experts note that the move represents the kind of publicity stunts company do with crypto to make headlines in the news with no real objective in mind to adopt the currency itself.
