Less than 0.01% of the World’s Population Owns One Bitcoin or More

  • Estimates suggest only 400,000 to 800,000 people own one Bitcoin or more

As the price of Bitcoin continues to rise long term, Bitcoin is becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain. Currently, a single Bitcoin is worth more than USD 10,000, more than the life savings of a majority of the people on the planet. Therefore, it is no surprise that only 3.3% of all Bitcoin addresses have more than one Bitcoin, which is less than 800,000 wallets out of the roughly 25 million Bitcoin wallets which do exist.

According to an analysis factoring in the possibility that some people may hold more than one Bitcoin but it is spread across many wallets, and that some wallets with lots of Bitcoin may actually be owned by multiple people, it is estimated that 500,000 to 1 million people in the world hold more than one Bitcoin. When factoring in the fact that 23% of all Bitcoin that exists is lost forever, then only 400,000 to 800,000 people own an entire Bitcoin.

Thus, the amount of people in the world that own an entire Bitcoin or more is comparable to the size of a medium-sized city like Las Vegas, or equivalently only 0.01% of the total population of the world.
