- China is using blockchain technology to maintain public data and manage essential health records amid an outbreak of coronavirus
According to a report by the People’s Daily Online in China, in the first two weeks of February, there were 20 blockchain-based applications introduced to tackle the emerging challenges from the spread of coronavirus. Blockchain is being used for various purposes such as maintaining health records, tracking supply chains of medical materials. However, most of the apps are being used to manage the citizens’ personal data as most of them are returning to work this month.
The reason blockchain is being used on such a vast scale is to ensure that the public data remains secure. Therefore blockchain’s ability to encrypt transaction data is doing the job.
In China’s Shaanxi province, blockchain is being used to maintain health records ensuring interoperability while simultaneously not compromising patient privacy. In its Zhejiang province, Vastchain technology has introduced a program that generates QR codes that allow residents to enter gate communities. The company said that it will delete all the data after the epidemic is over. Moreover, China’s Alipay launched a blockchain-based platform that allows for the management of allocation and donation of supply relief. Alipay said that the entire process is tamper-proof and can be tracked at any time.
Local authorities say that blockchain allows the secure recording of public data which is tamper-free. The collection of data regarding the virus is accurate thus removing any scope of rumors being spread which ensures dealing with the epidemic in a positive way.
