Weaponizing Blockchain Is Happening Under the Wraps

While blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are often touted as the saviours of the world of tomorrow, there is also a quiet race going on among the powers of the world in a bid to weaponize this technology for the future. While most of the developments are currently top secret and nothing is declassified, now and then indications are made that this side of things is also being heavily invested in.

Russia, China, United States, South Korea, Japan, and other top nations are all in the business of developing blockchain-based solutions to help safeguard national secrets. Even Indian defense minister Rajnath Singh said that blockchain and artificial intelligence are going to revolutionize war more but did not comment any further.

The current applications by the United States include foolproofing digital documents to escape fraudulent activities. Other than that, the government is still unsure about how to proceed further with the tech in the future. Contrastingly, China is adopting technology at a much faster rate. A Chinese military paper suggested that blockchain could be instrumental in intelligence operations and in protecting weapon life-cycle data from cyberattacks. Russia is also thinking along the same lines and is investing more and more resources into the industry.

While many of these projects are publicly disclosed, there is in all probability massive research and development going on in the sector that will disrupt the military mindset along with artificial intelligence in the future.
